If you're doomed and you know it...
Clap your hands.
Toronto, ON, Apr. 28 (UPI) -- Muslims in the Canadian province of Ontario can soon turn to settling disputes in their own courts, known as sharia, the Washington post reported.
Muslim promoters of sharia arbitration said no cases have yet been decided but the process is set. Islamic leaders created an Islamic Court of Civil Justice last fall and it has chosen arbitrators who have undergone training in sharia and Canadian civil law.
A few of my canuck friends expressed hope that things would improve up in Soviet Canuckistan with Paul Martin becoming the new PM. My response was typically to the point of: Right, kind of how Gore would have
improved the US after Clinton.
Canada is saddled with two very, very ugly situations. First, they lack a proportional system of representation, and as such the votes of those in large (generally liberal) urban areas carry significantly more weight than, say, a farmer in a more rural (and typically more sane) area.
Secondly, Canada has no term limits for any office above the position of Mayor. That means that if one given party, say... the liberals, get into power, the people are more or less stuck with the same old crap until a given official decides to leave or, by some miracle, is voted out of office.
And with that, we give you the stark contrast between a democratic republic and a constitutional monarchy.
My advice remains to the friends I have up in the frozen north: Get out, and get out
now.
